Susan McCulloch quoted in article about Queensland Director's job

Susan McCulloch has been quoted in regard to her opinion about who will be the next director of the Queensland Art Gallery in the Courier Mail:

"Art critic and author Susan McCulloch said the rumour mill is running hot about the job.

"It's a bit like musical chairs in the gallery world," she said. "Lynne Seear (QAG assistant director) would be an obvious one to think of. But the odd thing is that deputy directors rarely get to inherit the main job. (Expatriate Australian) Christopher Saines has been mentioned in relation to the job, he's in New Zealand (at Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tamaki), but I don't know if he would be interested in it.

"Good luck to whoever gets it. It's a fabulous job, a problematic job, I think it could be very hard keeping the money up to scratch. I think the gallery is wonderful, but there are considerable challenges in the job of running it, too," she said."

Launch

The Official Launch for the new McCulloch's Encyclopedia of Australian Art was held at Australian Galleries in Melbourne on Monday November 13 2006. The book was launched by Patrick McCaughey.

Speakers for the evening were

Stuart Purves, Director of Australian Galleries
Louise Adler, Publisher at MUP The Miegunyah Press
Patrick McCaughey
and
Emily McCulloch Childs and Susan McCulloch

It was a successful night with a huge attendance including plenty of artists, curators and writers, and many friends, many of whom have known all three generations of the McCulloch family. The launch recieved several mentions in the press, including in Lawrence Money's Diary in The Age, thanks to McCaughey's wonderful speech, in which he spoke of Diderot, Alan McCulloch, the founding author of the Encyclopedia, and rather generously compared the McCulloch dynasty to the Bach family.

Below are some photos from the night taken by photographers Andrew Henshaw and Nigel Carboon.
